Remove Wga -Windows Genuine Notification .

  1. Launch Windows Task Manager
  2. End wgatray.exe process in Task Manager.
  3. Restart Windows XP in Safe Mode.
  4. Delete WgaTray.exe from C:\Windows\System32.
  5. Delete WgaTray.exe from C:\Windows\System32\dllcache.
  6. Open RegEdit and browse to the following location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
  7. Delete the folder ‘WgaLogon’ and all its contents
  8. Reboot Windows XP.

As soon as you complete the above steps it will pop up again like Windows is Not Genuine. You can fix even this trouble just follow the following steps:

  1. Ignore Step #2 of ending wgatray.exe before restarting to Safe Mode as it serves no purpose.
  2. At Step #4, wait on the deletion confirmation dialog box and then open task manager to end wgatray.exe
  3. When you are again prompted for a confirmation for terminating the process, align that confirmation box over the delete confirmation box- Press Yes on the Task Manager prompt and then quickly press Yes on the deletion confirmation. (You need to repeat this if you miss it)•If you did it quickly then you will be able to delete the file.
  4. Step #5 can be missed. I was able to do it without the Step #5.•Complete Step 6 to 8 as instructed.Once you finished the all above steps just follow these steps too.

•Go to Control Panel > Security Center > Automatic Update Settings.

•Select the third option “Notify me but don’t automatically download or install them“.

•Click Ok.

•Now when Windows Updates icon will appear in the system tray (it will take some time), click on the icon and it will display a list of available updates.

•This time unselect the checkbox of Windows Genuine Advantage Notification Tool, and click on Download.

•Select “Don’t notify my about these updates again” so it will ignored every time updates are downloaded.

•From the next time, make sure to check the list of download so that you might not install any new version of this

I read about one called W32 that did something with the above mentioned registry-keys.
Good luck.

Stop windows update nagging me !

1. Open services dialog box.
2. Stop those services : - Automatic Updates
- Background Intelligent Transfer Service
- Cryptographic Services
3. Explore C:\WINDOWS and rename the folder "SoftwareDistribution" to
"SoftwareDistribution.old" .

4. Explore C:\WINDOWS\system32 and rename those folder:
"Catroot2" to "Catroot2.old"
"SoftwareDistribution" to "SoftwareDistribution.old" .
5. Start the following services (the 3 services that you already stoped).

6. Go to Control Panel and Double-click Automatic Updates.

7. Select “Notify Me but Don’t Automatically Update Or Install Them” radio button then OK.

This procedure forces Windows to reset the files that track what updates you have installed. This means that the automatic update will stop nagging you to update even though you already have. This procedure means Windows will stop trying to download and install SP3.
One word of warning though, in general Windows updates are important not only for your security and peace of mind, but also for the security of everyone else. I highly recommend that you apply the patches as soon as you can. Our Windows Patch Tuesday feature will keep you informed just what each patch contains.

Sharing Printer Problams

Troubleshooting: Windows XP security configuration
Due to the user-based security of Windows XP, you may run into difficulties accessing your printer from other computers. This can happen when the other systems are using older versions of Windows like 98 or ME, and it can also happen if you have disabled Windows XP's simple file and printer sharing system or the 'guest' user account.
The problem is that Windows XP will not allow access to the printer without a legitimate user account and password. If you are trying to connect to a shared folder over the network, you will get a dialog box which allows you to enter this information, but this will not work for printing. Every system that tries to send documents to your printer will need a user name and password that the XP computer attached to it recognizes.
XP contains a 'guest' account which will allow remote users 'anonymous' access to your shared printer, but on XP professional this account may be disabled. If you are having problems creating the network printer on your systems, or if you have already created the printer, but cannot print to it, follow these steps.
On the Windows XP computer attached to the printer, take the following steps:
1. Ensure that the 'guest' account is active (this is only necessary on XP Professional. The guest account is always active in XP Home):
Right click on 'my computer' and select 'manage.' Expand 'local users and groups\users.' Right click on the 'guest' account and select 'properties.' Ensure that the 'account is disabled' checkbox is clear.
2. Ensure that simple file sharing is enabled (again, this is only necessary with XP Professional systems):
Open 'my computer.' Select 'tools\folder options.' Choose the 'view' tab and scroll down until you find the 'use simple file sharing' checkbox. Ensure it is checked.
3. The final solution is to add a user account and password for every system in your network into the XP computer connected to the printer. For example, say you have two additional computers in your home, one running Windows 2000 with the username 'ricky' and the password 'trailer' and the other using Windows 98 with the username 'jim' and no password. You will need to create the user accounts 'ricky' and 'jim' on your Windows XP system, complete with the appropriate password (or lack of password).
When the other computers attempt to access your computer, they will present their current username and password as credentials. Since this will match with the accounts you just created on the XP machine, they will be able to access the printer.
